Some organizations begin with a business plan. Others begin with a deeply personal experience.
For Promised Land Ranch, the vision emerged while walking alongside a close friend facing significant challenges after serving in the armed forces. As Ali Meeks and others watched him find healing through time outdoors and through his faith, they began to imagine what might be possible if more veterans and first responders had access to that same kind of connection, reflection, and restoration.
That experience planted the seed for what would become Promised Land Ranch, a nonprofit dedicated to creating meaningful experiences in the outdoors while preserving one of the region’s largest remaining tracts of wildland.
“We began to see the potential for a place where other veterans and first responders could experience that same connection with creation and with one another.”
Ali Meeks, Vice President, Promised Land Ranch
More Than Land Conservation
The mission extends beyond the people the ranch serves. It also includes restoring the land itself.
Many visitors are surprised to learn that portions of the property have been impacted by mining and other land-use practices over the years, leaving soils depleted and vulnerable to erosion. Through regenerative ranching practices, Promised Land Ranch is working to rebuild healthy soils, establish deeper and more diverse root systems, improve habitat for wildlife, and create conditions that could eventually support the return of species that were once common in the area.
In many ways, the ranch’s work reflects a shared goal: restoration from the ground up.
Located just outside Chattanooga, the 2,100-acre property provides a setting uniquely suited to that purpose. Surrounded by forests, wildlife, wildflowers, and open spaces, the ranch sits within a region that is home to a strong community of veterans and first responders. Its location also places it within reach of a broader network of organizations and individuals across the Southeast who may benefit from its programs and mission.
Today, Promised Land Ranch is focused on transforming vision into experience. The organization is launching a four-hour Ranch Experience for veterans and first responders centered on time outdoors, reflection, and interaction with horses. It is also preparing for its Built to Last leadership seminar on October 29, introducing the ranch to a wider network of business and community leaders.
Building Connections for the Future
As a new Chattanooga Chamber member, building relationships is a key part of that next chapter.
“We’re especially looking to build relationships with people who connect with our vision for Promised Land Ranch, see its potential, and find ways to collaborate,” Meeks said.
A year from now, the team hopes to have hosted groups and events, expanded its network of partners, and established the ranch as a place where people can step away from the demands of everyday life to reconnect with themselves, with others, and with the outdoors.
Just as importantly, they hope to contribute to Chattanooga’s business community through collaboration, shared learning, and meaningful partnerships. For Promised Land Ranch, the future is about more than developing a property. It is about creating a place where restored land can help foster restored people and stronger community connections in the process.
