Adventure Sports Innovation (ASI) has launched ChattaScooter, a new personal mobility program offering a safe and convenient way for most adults to rent an e-scooter. Perfect for visitors looking to explore the city, or for residents looking for a fun outing in the Scenic City, the ChattaScooter program provides a fun and eco-friendly way to get around.
Private on-demand scooter rentals are now available in Chattanooga, with three locations for pickup and drop-off, including ASI, One Riverside Apartments and The Local Juicery and Kitchen.
“The plan is that our next locations would be more apartment complexes, hotels and a few businesses or shopping plazas,” says Carolina Molloy, co-owner of ASI. “We will be looking to establish pickup/drop-off locations where people live, shop and play, in downtown, West Village, UTC campus, Riverfront Northshore and perhaps out by Saint Elmo.”
Pricing for the stand-up, electric scooters is $24 per hour, or $0.40 per minute, charged by the minute via the phone app from Levy, Inc. Riders need to be at least 16 years old and must own a smartphone and debit/credit card.
For rider safety during COVID, scooters and helmets are sanitized after each rental.
“We started ChattaScooter at our storefront on the Northshore to see if there was demand, and to test our model and software with very little advertising. Last fall, we added two locations to test how that would work, and we're working to expand our fleet and partner locations by March when the weather warms up.”
Not Your Typical Scooter Program
Last year in February, the City Council indefinitely banned controversial dockless electric scooter companies from coming to Chattanooga after some expressed concerns with dumped and junked vehicles, speeding drivers and increased accidents.
The ChattaScooter program meets existing guidelines, and it differs from other stand-up scooters in that scooters can only be rented and dropped off at the aforementioned three locations. To ensure that scooters aren’t abandoned, the renter’s credit card continues to be charged until the vehicle is returned correctly, taking charges up to $1,000.
“ChattaScooter aims to fill a transportation need in the Chattanooga metro area,” says Patrick Molloy, Adventure Sports Innovation’s CEO. “We offer easy access to cool transportation devices, and the program addresses the safety concerns and haphazard parking that often occur with 'dockless' scooters programs”.
Luis Contreras, Team Leader at the Local Juicery and Kitchen, who recently signed up to become part of the program, says: “We definitely see the growing demand for more choices in transportation around the city, and are excited to offer this convenience for both residents and visitors to our city”.
