Around the Region: Nokian Tyres

In 2019, Finland-based tire manufacturer Nokian Tyres opened its first North American Plant in Rhea County, thanks in part to the influence of the Greater Chattanooga Economic Partnership (GCEP).

Wes Boling, Senior Manager of Communications, Nokian Tyres, explains that the available workforce and training opportunities, as well as the public-private, education, and business partnerships fostered by the GCEP, played a significant role in Nokian’s decision to expand in the Greater Chattanooga Region.

Boling also emphasizes the advantages of being in close proximity to Chattanooga, including easy recruitment opportunities, convenient access to the airport, and a wide range of activities available for employees and their families.

GCEP, a public-private, regional economic development partnership representing a 16-county region, helped create an environment conducive to Nokian Tyres’ operation and growth in Southeast Tennessee.
