Spotlight On: Hixson Council

Each of the Chamber’s 12 Councils strives to find creative ways to give back to the schools in their footprints. The Hixson Council created an Enrichment Grant program to provide funding for small projects for local schools. Each school in the Hixson area is eligible and applies through the Council to receive funding.

Funding from this year’s grants have supported Hixson High School’s music department, a robot coding program at Big Ridge Elementary School and a sculpture garden at Loftis Middle School.

The Council donated $2,100 and ended the year by inviting Hixson public school officials to their monthly meeting for updates and to hear their vision for the upcoming school year.

This integration of education and business is a crucial component of the Hixson Council’s strategic plan.

The 2016-17 Enrichment Grants were made possible by the Chattanooga Zoo, Donald Kane State Farm, Hullco Exteriors, Mathnasium, Northgate Mall, Right at Home, Scenic Community Credit Union and Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union.

“Community leadership is a core pillar of our organization. We always strive to provide leadership for our local businesses, but it is especially important to our organization that we also nurture the future leaders of our community.” Donald Kane, Hixson Council President
