City, County and Hamilton County Schools to Announce New Schools Program

News conference to be held at Orchard Knob Elementary School on July 15 at 10 a.m. to announce a new initiative that will support Chattanooga students

Chattanooga, Tenn. (July 13, 2021) — The mayors of Chattanooga and Hamilton County will join with Hamilton County Schools Superintendent Dr. Bryan Johnson, city council representatives, community leaders, and local officials to unveil a new program to support students in the classroom and beyond.

The initiative is a new partnership between the city and Hamilton County Schools, and represents the first step by the Kelly administration to increase its commitment to Chattanooga’s students.

Hamilton County Schools Superintendent Dr. Bryan Johnson, Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly and Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger will speak at Orchard Knob Elementary to discuss the methodology and projected impact of this program.

Among other community leaders expected to attend in support are Northside Neighborhood House Executive Director Rachel Gammon, Hamilton County Commissioner Warren Mackey, City Councilwoman Jenny Hill, City Councilman Anthony Byrd, and School Board District 4 Member Tiffanie Robinson.

The program is part of a wider initiative to provide high-quality early education to Chattanooga students and to increase student success in Chattanooga — values that Mayor Kelly espoused during his campaign.

Members of the media and public are invited to attend the news conference at Orchard Knob Elementary School on July 15 at 10 a.m.
