Home Page Videos Boost Your Company’s First Impression

Kris Simmons

“Do I need videos on the home page of my company website?” Umm, yes!  Have you ever heard the saying, “You only get one chance to make a first impression?” The same goes for your website.

Companies spend a lot of money developing websites in an attempt to easily explain their company, product and its services. However, if your company doesn’t have a short compelling video on your home page that describes who you are, what you do, etc. you’re missing the boat on selling your company to a potential customer.

Everyone Watches Videos

It’s no surprise that video is a growing medium. YouTube logs 1.9 billion user visits every month. Psychologist and behavioral scientist Susan Weinschenk tells us why videos are more engaging than plain text:

·         We’re hard-wired to pay attention to faces.

·         Information is conveyed through tone of voice.

·         We “catch” emotions from others.

·         Movement grabs and holds our attention.

·         Not only does video improve engagement, but it helps memory too. The retention rate for visual information is up to 65 percent verses 10 percent for textual information.

Click Through Rates & SEO

Videos increase your click through rate by 30 percent, which means visitors stay longer on your website – which can boost search engine optimization (SEO). Using video also helps boost your Google search results as video is 50 times more likely to rank well than a plain-text site

What Type of Video Do I Need?

A video on your homepage can be the first impression of your company. What is the takeaway you want your web visitors to have after visiting your website? What feeling do you want your viewers to have? What actions do you want them to take? Based on your answers to these questions, options include:

Sizzle Reel: An action-packed sizzle reel can give a high-level overview of what your company is all about in a highly-stimulating and exciting way.

Brand Video: A brand video with interviews from key stakeholders can help give your viewers a feel for people within your company. Check out how PHD Realty uses its brand video to showcase the personalities of its realtors while highlighting the services they provide.

Video Testimonials: What better way to share about how awesome your company is than from your customers? Video testimonials are particularly effective because viewers can actually see and hear the authenticity from the consumer. Check out how Steve and Kate Camps use testimonials to share what they are all about.

You only have a few moments to capture your prospects’ attention when they visit your website. Invest in a brand video that will captivate your audience, spark an emotion and get them one step closer to doing business with your company.
