Comcast Announces Completion of 10-Gigabit Fiber Network Designed to Support Chattanooga’s Business Community

Chattanooga, Tenn. – June 9, 2016 – Comcast Business today announced it has completed a multi-million dollar fiber optic network across greater Chattanooga capable of delivering up to 10-gigabit speeds to local businesses. The fiber-based Ethernet service will provide businesses, schools, hospitals and government organizations with highly scalable and ultra-fast Internet connectivity and cloud-based voice solutions.

“Like Chattanooga, Comcast continues to make important technology investments that keep the community ahead of tomorrow’s innovations,” said Cleve Lewis, Vice President for Comcast Business. “This effort will accelerate local economic growth and business opportunities for existing organizations and help attract new industries.”

Over the past few years, Comcast has announced several investments and product launches in Chattanooga, including the launch of Gigabit Pro, Comcast’s 2-gigabit internet service and hundreds of Xfinity WiFi hotspots across the marketplace.

“We appreciate Comcast’s investment in our community, which we believe will not only support existing industries, but attract new organizations as well.” said Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger. “Innovations and technologies, such as Comcast’s new multi-gig service for businesses, reinforces Chattanooga as a top destination for companies requiring the most advanced technology available.”

“Extending this advanced network to Chattanooga is a demonstration of Comcast’s commitment to being one of the leading providers of information, innovations and entertainment in Chattanooga,” said Justin Junda, Chief Technology Officer for The Lamp Post Group. “This investment will make Chattanooga an even more attractive spot for businesses to locate their operations.”

Comcast Business serves schools, businesses, hospitals, and other organizations that require large amounts of bandwidth, are looking to link multiple locations, or that plan to connect their offices to a third-party data center. Services offered include:

Ethernet Private Line: point-to-point connectivity between two customer sites for bandwidth-intensive applications.

Ethernet Virtual Private Line: point-to-multipoint connection to enable customers to tailor bandwidth, performance characteristics, and cost.

Ethernet Network Service: multipoint-to-multipoint connectivity to connect organizations with high-bandwidth requirements and multiple locations across Comcast’s network.

Ethernet Dedicated Internet: continuous, high-bandwidth connectivity between customers’ LANs and the public Internet.

Nationally, Comcast Business’s Ethernet services are delivered over an advanced network that spans 140,000 miles and features a 100 Gbps backbone and expanded local footprint through Ethernet over HFC. Bandwidth is available up to 10 Gbps and can be scaled in increments and offered in three different classes of service, backed by strict service level agreements and monitored 24x7x365 from Comcast’s dedicated Network Operations Centers.
