Tennessee American Water Accepting Applications for 2018 Environmental Grant Program

By Daphne Kirksey

Application are now open for Tennessee American Water’s 2018 Environmental Grant Program. The program supports innovative, community-based environmental projects that improve, restore or protect watersheds and water sources through partnerships.

Diverse activities like watershed cleanups, water quality monitoring, biodiversity projects, streamside buffer restoration projects, wellhead protection initiatives and hazardous waste collection efforts are examples of projects supported through this grant program.

The environmental grant program is competition based and last year Tennessee American Water awarded $10,000 in total grant funding between three organizations.

"One of our key values is environmental leadership, which extends beyond the quality of our water,” says Valoria Armstrong, Tennessee American Water President. “Our environmental focus also includes supporting community projects that involve residents and protect our natural water sources and watersheds.”

Organizations that received environmental grants in 2017:

• Lookout Mountain Conservancy, watershed protection program with The Howard School

• Hamilton County Coalition, educating the community on proper medication disposal through Drug Take Back community events and youth involvement

• TennesSEA (Student Environmental Alliance), establishment of a Mountain Creek/Stringers Branch watershed alliance for community engagement and citizen water quality monitoring/cleanup

The grant application, details on the grant requirements and examples of projects can be found here.

Applications must be received or post-marked by Monday, March 26, 2018.
